PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:
This is an 80% combined medical leadership and clinical role, allocated as 20% Country Medical Director and 60% Medical Director. The role provides country-level medical governance, quality oversight and regulatory assurance while retaining primary responsibility for direct nephrology and dialysis care, treatment decisions, patient follow-up and clinical delivery at clinic level.
KEY RESULT AREA AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Country Medical Director — 20% of the role
· Provide country-level medical leadership and advise the Country Managing Director on medical quality, patient outcomes, clinical risk and regulatory matters.
· Ensure national implementation of and compliance with Diaverum clinical policies, procedures and guidelines, together with applicable Swedish legal and regulatory requirements.
· Review medical staff credentials and oversee medical practice to confirm that physicians are appropriately licensed, competent and authorized to work in dialysis services.
· Ensure adequate physician coverage and medical continuity in accordance with regulatory and operational requirements.
· Review country and clinic quality information, including patient outcomes, mortality, infection control, medical records, water quality, preventive maintenance and medical-equipment maintenance.
· Serve as a member of the country management and quality-assurance forums as required, and lead follow-up of agreed medical improvement actions.
· Act as the senior medical liaison with hospitals, healthcare providers and relevant external stakeholders regarding services delivered to Diaverum patients.
· Escalate significant medical, clinical or operational risks and drive corrective actions and improvements across the country organization.
Medical Director — 60% of the role
· The Medical Director is the head of the production of hemofiltration fluids within the dialysis department.He or she is ensuring that the production in the department is medically appropriate. Another task is to ensure the patients’ clinical and medical quality performance.
· Maintain the licenses, authorizations and liability documentation required to practice medicine and fulfil Diaverum´s internal medical requirements.
· Lead the clinic's medical work and ensure safe, evidence-based and high-quality nephrology and dialysis care.
· Take responsibility for diagnostic and therapeutic decisions for assigned patients, including dialysis prescription, dialysis-related conditions, vascular access, underlying kidney disease and treatment modality selection.
· Provide individual physician consultations at least weekly, assess treatment progress at least monthly, and complete multidisciplinary treatment reviews at least every six months or more frequently when clinically required.
· Manage referrals and medical communication with hospitals, specialist services and ambulatory care providers, including transplantation work-up and pre- and post-transplant dialysis.
· Participate in therapeutic conferences and multidisciplinary activities covering vascular access, nutrition, social support, patient and family education and staff education.
· Ensure timely, complete and accurate medical records and quality data, including required QI, QMR, HMR and quarterly reporting.
· Ensure compliance with GDPR, public-health and epidemiological requirements, and implement measures to prevent infection and reduce hepatitis morbidity.
· Oversee the medical suitability of hemofiltration-fluid production and the quality of water used for dialysis, including monitoring of cultures, endotoxins, disinfection, water-quality results and pyrogenic reactions.
· Participate in clinic and country meetings as needed and contribute to internal medical education.
Allocation and coordination
The position totals 80% of full-time employment. The 20% Country Medical Director allocation is reserved for national medical governance and oversight; the 60% Medical Director allocation is reserved for clinic-level medical leadership and patient care. Priorities are coordinated with the Country Managing Director to protect both allocations and ensure continuity of care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
University degree in Medical School
Experience
At least 10 years experience in renal services
Languages
Superior command of written and spoken English
IT
Good knowledge of MS Office applications and company medical software system
