As part of our Strategic Research organization, the unit provides expert support to all our divisions; Tube, Strip and Kanthal. We generate high-quality testing results, develop new and existing testing methods, and participate in cutting-edge research development projects, all to ensure we stay ahead of the curve.

Your Role
The Physical Metallurgy unit, an integral part of Strategic Research Labs, comprises several advanced characterization and analytical techniques. These include X-ray diffraction (XRD), light and electron microscopy (LOM, SEM, TEM, and EPMA), dilatometry, surface analysis, and physical property measurement instruments. The team consists of highly competent and skilled engineers and technicians.
The successful candidate will primarily work with XRD-related techniques and methods, both independently and in close collaboration with various production and R&D units across Alleima. The position also offers the opportunity to work with the Electron Probe Micro-Analyzer (EPMA) technique.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct microstructural and material characterization of alloys using XRD techniques, including phase identification, residual stress analysis, grazing incidence XRD, texture analysis, lattice strain measurement, and dislocation density evaluation.
Perform EPMA measurements and subsequent data analysis.
· Actively participate in assigned projects by completing tasks on time and contributing technical expertise, knowledge, and innovative ideas.
· Communicate results through presentations, discussions, and technical reports.
· Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety by adhering to all safety procedures and maintaining a safe working environment at all times.
· Ensure that XRD equipment is serviced, calibrated, and repaired in a timely manner to maintain operational excellence.
· Participate in conferences, technical forums, and professional networks to stay up to date with the latest developments in XRD and EPMA.
· Play a key role in identifying future technology needs and contributing to investment decisions within your area of expertise.
· Contribute to the continuous development of new characterization methods in collaboration with engineers, technicians and customers.
About You
We are looking for someone with a technical degree, either Ph. D or Master’s degree with relevant experience, preferably, within metallurgy, materials or physics. To be suited for this role you need to have good skills within XRD technique and related analyses softwares (Eva, Leptos, Topas, Texture) & Rietveld refinement along with SEM to perform EPMA. Good knowledge about stainless steels and nickel base superalloys, thermo-mechanical processes, physical metallurgy, deformation mechanisms and crystallographic texture is advantageous. Experience with other diffraction techniques such as synchrotron/neutron to understand phases and deformation related mechanisms will be a merit. Excellent presentation and technical writing skills are expected for this role. You should be able to communicate in Swedish, both verbally and in writing. As we work in a global environment, communication skills in English are also needed.
